| NOAC Success - Saturday, August 08, 2009On July 31, 2009 Wahissa Lodge took a delegation of thirty-two people to the National Order of the Arrow Conference. After the long drive to Bloomington, Indiana the delegation was registered for the event and set toward Briscoe dorm rooms, which to no surprise had no air conditioning. Despite temperatures in the mid to low 80's the delegation had a wonderful time attending training sessions, pow wows, competitions, and other activities. The theme "Power of One" was used throughout the conference to inspire both youth and adult in attendance. The Lodge also had four members on staff this year, varying from Shows to Chiefs Corps. Wahissa Lodge is proud of it's members who were presented with the following awards:
Robert Mason Disquinished Service Award.
Hunter Day National Straight Dance Champion.
Bradely Taylor represented the Lodge recieving the highest rating of Honor Lodge for the museum display, as well as placing first place in the oral presentation.
Congratulations!

| 2009 NOAC Registration Available - Wednesday, July 09, 2008
By now, hopefully many of you have been to a Fall Fellowship or a Conclave. At Fall Fellowship, the different chapters of Wahissa Lodge come together for a massive celebration full of food, fun, and fellowship. At a Conclave, the same takes place, but only on a much larger scale, covering most of North Carolina. However, next summer, for the first time in three years, the entire OA nation will come together to celebrate, to make new friendships and tighten the old, to learn from each other, to share the ideals of scouting, and all in all have a great time at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
This event is so large that it will take place over nearly a week, from August 1 to 6 in 2009. Wahissa will be driving delegates to and from Bloomington on July 31 and August 7.
The estimated cost for this event is $700, which includes the national registration fee, NOAC delegate patch, delegate shirt, delegate flap, food, van rental, gas and a shared hotel room. Additionally, up to ten youth may apply for the Brent Hincher Memorial Scholarship, which will cover $200 of the cost. Application forms are due January 2, 2009 and are attached to this article.
Due to space limitations, Wahissa will only be allowed to bring 33 people, at about a 2:1 ratio of youth to adults. This event only takes place every two years, so you need to register ASAP in order to secure your spot. We only have about 13 spaces left. The registration form is attached to this article and the registration deadline has been extended to January 2, 2009, when both payments will be due. For more information on NOAC, please see this form. We hope to see you there!

| March Workday Despite an unhelpful downpour of rain at Camp Raven Knob, 115 arrowmen descended upon camp March 14th to help with March Workday projects. Because of the rain, many outdoor projects were substituted for indoor projects such as sweeping camp buildings and painting inside the Lodge Building. Yet some arrowmen still trudged through the rain, shredding debris around the Atwell Cottage, and walking through washed-out, mud laden roads in camp to make March Workday a success. Congrats goes out to all the arrowmen who came up to camp to lend a hand despite the downpour!

| Conclave On April 17th, arrowmen from across North Carolina migrated en mass to Camp Tuscarora. Wahissa’s contingent, 222 arrowmen strong, donned the guise of a circus as it competed from the opening ceremony for the treasured Spirit Award. Throughout the weekend, arrowmen were treated to fireworks, over 100 exhibits at the OA Xperience, a BMX course, a rock wall, and an actual skate park. Wahissa’s clowns, strongmen, cannoneers, monkeys, and bearded ladies demonstrated lodge spirit well, and the weather managed to remain sunny throughout. When awards were given out, Wahissa reclaimed the coveted Spirit Award. Additionally, Kevin Argabright won the senior traditional dance, Andrew Tucker won the junior grass dance, Dalton Lankford placed third in the junior grass, and Hunter Day placed second in the senior dance. Wahissa also claimed the overall Indian Affairs Award. During the section elections, Wahissa’s Bradley Taylor was elected the Section’s Vice Chief of Programs. Congratulations to all the award winners.
